I agree that less than 12 jurors sounds odd. When I learned about juries of 6, I was surprised, however they do seem pretty common now - trying to save money I guess.

IIRC, when I was on the grand jury, we got $2/day for compensation. I do not recall we got anything for petit jury duty.

I thought that one of the jurors said you only needed to find him guilty beyond a preponderance of a doubt.

One of the jurors said that, but I did not think the juror was necessarily right, and I did not understand the distinction anyway. That is why we asked the judge to clarify the issue, but his clarification did not really clarify anything.
