I would be mroe careful about this hallf-century argument. Spending the growing surplus and disguising off-budget was revitalized in the 1980s during the Reagan Presidency.

Who gives a $hi!. The fact is that SS and Medicare are about to go over a cliff, with disasterous results for one and all. These programs need to be fixed or replaced with something that works. At least the Repubs are willing to talk about it. The Dems won't even agree that there's a problem.
