I used to teach economics, so maybe that's the problem. :) People at parties would ask what I did, and as soon as I said "economics", they'd say "I hated that course." Kind of a conversation stopper.
That's too bad. I think a lot of the country's problems could be solved by applying economics plus ethics. For example, one publicly-funded baby heart-lung transplant probably costs the same as vaccinating every child in the county for everything we have vaccines for, and the long-term benefits are greater. But that's getting into politics.
I once found a site that applied economic methods to interesting problems, but I can't remember if I saved it or what I filed it under. Too bad.
Oh, and I usually understand what you are saying. Even when you are talking about birds.
