...why a company's very positive financial report would cause the stock price to take a dive? I notice that there has been much more than 'average' activity on the stock I'm talking about. Would that precipitate the drop? Or did the drop precipitate the activity?

Not sure about the answer to your question. Perhaps is just a simple correction to the 50% increase DRS has seen in the past 6 months. See the following chart comparing it to Vanguard's mutual funds VEXMX, VFINX. In any event, congratulations on your DRS holdings.
