If you have a choice, pick Newark (EWR). You can take a NJTransit train into Penn Station from there and not have to deal with traffic. I told a friend who lives in NYC about this feature for a couple of years before she deigned to try it and she raved about the convenience.
I was born & raised in Elizabeth. After I moved to KY(1970) I would fly home to visit; land at EWR and walk home. Last time I tried that though, the expansion had me so confused I had to call one of my brothers to come get me.
Trains to NYC run regular through/from Eliz. too!
-no immediate fambly in Eliz. anymore, though my first cousin is mayor!
