"nd can interpret the Constitution in a way that at least 80% of can agree with (or live with).}}"
And the other 20%? we ship them back to XXXX? or burn them at the stake?
Let's see... your interpretation of the Constitution is right? as opposed to someone else's?
We don't live in a country where 'majority' rules..even if you get 80% agreeing.
We live in a country where the rights of individual citizens are enumrated, and not taken away by 'public vote' on the 'issue of the moment'. Where specific rights to having freedom of the press (not just freedom to print what 80% agree with), with having freedom of religion (not just what is the dominant 'sect' of the moment, and freedom of association.
So what about the 20% who can't agree with or live with? We take away their reservations and send them packing, confiscating yet again their lands and wealth? We ship 'troublemakers' back to wherever, or simply kick them out of the country, to the 'gulag', or throw them in jail for the next 50 years?
