It is so expense to borrow money on credit cards that it may make sense in some usual situations to take money out of a 401K/IRA to pay it off.

Not sure I agree. In any case, every year I get offered no-interest credit cards with the no-interest part lasting for at least a year. I guess my credit must be fine. Don't know what gets into these people. I just cancel at the end of the year and transfer the balance, if any, to another no-interest credit card. Eventually, I suppose that will stop working.
