It also requires a lot of capital to do properly, at least several hundred thousand dollars. Most retail bond investors are better served by carefully selected bond funds - featuring low fees.


I would agree with this, if I'm going to set up 5 years worth of ladder to cover 5 years worth of expenses then I need something like 500k worth of bonds in the ladder. That's doable, but it's also a lot of money.
