Does any of this make sense?
I don't think you have a problem with 401k's but with the fact that the majority of them are comprised with soley mutual fund choises. Some 401k's have company stock as well mutual funds.
Unfortunately most average investors don't have the time to pick individual stocks; do the research. What most people do is either look at the previous quarters preformance of a stock or fund; the other way is to invest is to listen to co-workers. This can lead to tragic returns.
You mention the ammount of money flowing into the stock market, valuation concerns, being able to withdraw from your 401k money after you retire withoutrunning out of funds, supply and demand, etc.
How did you do investing over the years in your 401ks?
