I think I have a good (and totally non-political) analogy. Way back in HS, in my history class, before one of the modules we took a pre-exam to see what we knew (or didn't know). I scored an 80%--the highest in the class. We had the module, then took the exam again. This time I scored a 100%--yet I had the lowest overall improvement!

I feel that way about this whole "green" thing. I'm already living (comparatively to the rest of U.S. culture) lightly (simply due to my low income :-)), so why bother improving when my improvements will be small change compared to what others could do? Why aren't real people--like us--ever profiled? (well, in my case probably because I value my privacy and wouldn't allow it)

I guess it still continues to amaze me how clueless so many Americans are.
