Retirement Discussions / Aging Optimistically

Part of my job entails working with retired volunteers. As a group, those who do a lot of work for our organization and others that I know about are an astonishingly optimistic and cheerful bunch of people - and in rather good health considering that most are 75 to 85 years old.

I wondered if this only meant that I wasn't seeing those who are in poorer health, but those whom I know of (and we provide services to people who are homebound) are closer to, or beyond, age 90.

Come to think of it, people in general here are pretty optimistic, surprising since the economy has been bad for decades, the taxes are high, the weather is awful - you name it. I don't miss the chronically cranky and angry people in other places I've lived.
