An organization that the National Retiree Legislative Network cooperates with is preparing to release a report that demonstrates that defined benefit pension plans are a much more economical approach to providing retirement benefits than individual 401(k) accounts.
While this may be true, why should companies be responsible for employees' retirement savings?
If this is your situation with your 401(k), or someone you know, please let the NRLN know whether you would be willing to talk with a reporter about the difficulty of surviving financially with an inadequate 401(k) and possibly Social Security.
My local paper would be happy to print such stories--people suffering because they didn't save enough make for good press. Only it'll leave out the part about not saving enough and portray the people as victims of forces beyond their control.
