I'm sure you'd want to apply that principle just as much to low income people as high income people, wouldn't you?
Nope. Low income people already pay enough in payroll taxes to be doubly burdened. As a matter of fact a 4 person household earning $30,000 will pay $2295 in payroll taxes and only $430 in income taxes using the standard deduction.
Being one of the better off, I have no desire to add any more burden to those who aren't as well off. Apparently, you think the poor should subsidize the rich.
