If the OP and spouse are disciplined enough to live off their savings, fine. Most people are not.
How do you know that most people are not?
I'm always fascinated when I see (or hear) someone say something like this.
A guy I worked with once said he was dead-set against having dog-races in our area because most people would just gamble away their paychecks, leaving their wives and children to go begging. I asked him how he knew this... and what made him think this -- especially since HE wouldn't gamble his paycheck away -- and he just looked at me with a blank stare.
So I'm wondering how you know that most people are not disciplined enough. If you are, why wouldn't others be?
