It's not just the USA pressuring them to relax their secrecy, the Germans are pressuring as well. True enough, so does France - national budget shortages are universal. The rule seems to be that the larger your country's deficit is, the more its government is likely to point at Swiss bank accounts as the culprit while trying to apply pressure - as opposed to fixing the problem at home. However, since Luxembourg also maintains banking secrecy (even as an EU-member), the Swiss have been navigating that one quite well. |
