OK, but this country still has tremendous natural resources. We choose not to use many of them because in modern times mining, agriculture, and much of manufacturing is considered dirty.
OK, so we now want to live off of our trust funds and keep our hands clean. Great job if you can land one.
Also, we still have a highly skilled work force that can do lots of things very well. All it really takes is leadership.
So perhaps we need to review our priorities and the choices we have made. We still have major advantages over much of the world, natural resources, financing, and excellent skills available to us if we choose to deploy them.
Otherwise, as Nero fiddles, Rome continues to burn.
