Hey fools,
I'm sure those of you who have been on this board for awhile are tired of us newbees, but I'll take that chance.

I'm 57 and have invested in stocks for the last 12 years, mostly focusing on growth. As you can guess, I've had my ups and downs with the market like everyone. However, retirement is looming and I want to position my portfolio for principal safety and modest growth. I'm looking at a 60/40 balance and have read all of Robert Brokamp's advice on retirement portfolios and investing in bonds. I understand the risks with bond funds so I'm not terrible interested in going that way, but wondering where I might go for individual bond ideas. I am in the 28+% tax bracket, so I'm sure that plays into the equation. Any advice from you seasoned bond investors would be greatly appreciated. (sorry about being long-winded).
