So why pay taxes before you have to?

Perhaps because you think your tax rate will go up considerably in the future? I.e., why not pay taxes at 20% (making up the numbers) now rather than 40% later? Someone is going to have to pay off the national debt, or at least the interest on it, and no one but the taxpayer will do it.
