"Would like to hear some suggestions for where to put this particular sum of money. I have tended towards being invested in growth stocks in the past, but life has intervened!!
Thanks in advance to all who respond. "

There is an excellent article in this weeks' Barron's I was just reading. I recommend you get hold of the paper - JNJ is mentioned
as are several of the usual suspects.

After talking to a retirement seminar leader and a different
broker this week, I am told there are poor yields on reasonably
timed fixed income devices - the bond yields looked low to me.
As far as income generation, dividend payments still require
earnings to cover the dividends and if the economy tanks then
we may all be in the soup. However, there are some businesses that
tend to resist declines - and those might be real good options.
