C&EN is reporting that OCI in South Korea plans to build the world's largest polysilicon plant (supplying both the semiconductor and solar panel industries--though solar panels have been higher growth).

Leading producers are listed as Hemlock (subsidiary of Dow Corning, subsidiary of Dow Chemical and Corning Glassworks) 16%, OCI, 15%, GCL-Poly, 11%, Wacker Chemie, 9%, and others 49%.

When all the new plants are up and running, they expect oversupply beginning in 2012.

How low will prices go? This could be the first step to bringing solar into the picture with little or no govt subsidies.
