Personally, I expect to leave a decent inheritance for my children, and I hope that they use it to improve their lives, help with their children's education, etc. That would seem to be the normal sort of thing a parent who cared for his children would do. I used a small inheritance I got to help put my daughter through college, after all.

While we would like to leave something to the kids, there are a couple of scenarios where that won't be possible. In other words, we won't suffer for the sake of an inheritance for the kids. Also, our kids don't expect anything other than things in the house which they'll likely get before we're gone. In fact, we told them we'd be a burden on them in our old age, shuffling from one to the next every few months. It won't happen, but it's good to lower expectations.
