There were some adjustments in moving from Boston (Crockett's home) to Southern California. For one thing, his soil tends to be acidic, Ours is so alkaline, I have never succeeded in getting the Ph up to acid. Also, our soil is like silt or adobe. But then, the TV garden started out as a parking lot paved with asphalt.

If you want to learn about home gardening, get the DVD's of Crockett's Victory Garden. Hint: The magic ingredient is Peat Moss. But it tends to be very acidic.

??? why, if his soil is acidic, would he recommend peat-moss?

( my soil like yours is alkaline clay -- years of adding st*** to get it acidic enough for my Gardenia )
