Not too much good news from the Dream merchants this quarter. Thanks partly to last year's very strong performances from Shrek and Kung Fu Panda sequels.
'Puss In Boots - off to an excellent start in its domestic home video release - grossed approximately $535 million in worldwide box office to date, contributed $23.8 million of revenue in the quarter, driven primarily by its performance at the worldwide box office as well as merchandising and licensing activities.'
'Kung Fu Panda 2, which grossed approximately $665 million in worldwide box office, contributed $49.6 million of revenue in the quarter, driven primarily by its home entertainment performance. '
'Megamind contributed $19.4 million of revenue in the quarter, driven primarily by international pay television.'
'Library and other items contributed approximately $109.7 million of revenue to the quarter, including $72.9 million of revenue attributable to non-film businesses.'
Sales for the quarter were down 21% to $219MM, while profits were down 71% to $24.3MM. FY sales were down 10% to $706MM, while profits were down 49% to $87MM.
For FY 2011, they repurchased 0.9MM shares for $25MM, and have $125 million remaining under their repurchase authorization.
Also, Reuters reports that PIB costs were stated to be higher than usual, and costs for "Rise of the Guardians" will be higher too due to its release being postponed.
Obviously, some tough sledding still ahead for this company's fortunes
