Friedman finished chapter 1 discussing how the market protects political outcasts and minority groups. Because an impersonal market separates economic activity and political activity, these groups have much to gain from competitive capitalism. Ironically, he points out, members of these groups have been disproportionately associated with socialist and communist groups.
