Oddly enough, debates can have a huge impact on votes. Reagan likely won based on his debate performance (he was trailing in the polls prior to the debate) - and then there was only a single debate. You could say that people already knew Carter too, but they changed their mind after the debate. Gore likely lost based on his debate performance. The debates could make a huge difference, even if for all the wrong reasons. |
