Clearly there is a strong relationship between free markets and the number of banking crises... This is ludicrous. When there is massive government intervention, it is not even close to a free market. It's all just different brands of massive intervention. Even in the 1800s in the U.S., there were important regulations making the banking industry more unstable by making it less responsive to rapidly changing liquidity needs. |
