interesting enough in the spring the rye grew back
Actually, in many areas that is how it is planted. I will be planting wheat this week. I have a 17 acre field in oats already. This field will have electric fence put up around it for a neighbor to graze cattle on it this winter.
Most of the winter grazing around here is on small grain. After the cattle are off of it, the grain will joint and grow a seed stalk. It can be baled for hay just before it reaches dough stage or it can be combined for grain when it matures.
