And yet she was virulently anti-communist, pro free-market capitalism, and a great believer in individual rights. She's seems to be very popular with the libertarian wing of the conservative movement.
I consider myself somewhat of a fan. As a (small "L") libertarian, I think she should be free to spouse whatever opinions she likes. If I agree with 9, and disagree with 1, that doesn't make me think less of her.
Even great people have foibles and sometimes severe character defects.
So you'd be happy if your son chose to highlight Ayn Rand as his role model, in his coming-out Bar Mitzva speech, even though she was a vocal atheist. That would be very open minded.
Personally, I find that Ayn Rand, like Karl Marx, was an ideologue who had some appealing ideas. In both cases, the ideology as a whole crashes and burns spectacularly in real life.
