A European Court of Justice ruling on equality means women can no longer be offered discount rates because of their gender – even though they have fewer accidents than men.

The ‘insurance time-bomb’ will go off on December 21, when the EU ruling comes into effect.

On average, women’s annual premium will rise by £362 if brought into line with male drivers, as expected, while younger drivers could face hikes of up to £3,000.

The EU ruling has been blasted as ‘perverse’ by critics, and was opposed by the insurance industry itself.

Men under 22 have ten times as many serious crashes than women of the same age. They are also 25 times more likely to commit driving offences and twice as prone to making a claim.

A woman under 22 now pays about £1,800 for insurance, compared with £3,162 for men. Consumer Intelligence, which tracks prices, said young women who live in high crime areas and drive expensive cars could pay up to £3,000 more.

It's only 'fair' they pay the same, right?

It's a socialized world and everyone should be treated 'equally'. Isn't that what 'equal rights' were all about?

There's going to be lots of steam coming out of lots of female ears......
