I will be 63 next month and have had several different disability insurance plans that I pay for privately. They each have a 90 day waiting period before I could collect and end payments at age 65. I've been paying monthly for them for years (while my kids were young, etc.). Is there any reason to keep paying for them. I feel like I'm throwing hundreds away every month and worst case scenario I would be eligible for SS retirement if I really couldn't work (although at a much lower rate than if I wait until 66 1/2). I do have other assets. love my work and plan to work at least another 4 year. Any opinions? I'd much rather throw those hundreds into an investment for retirement.
