"If you don't like OUR proposal, give us YOURS."
Kind of reminds me of buying a new car. Salesperson gives you a number, and you give him/her your number. Of course, you are always free to walk out of the dealership.
Let's hope that the Republicans decide to make an offer. If not, they will not be the only ones WALKING home.
If the guy is being a jerk, then yeah you just walk out as there are other dealers to deal with. DC is different as they are the only game in town.
Obama has really offered nothing substantial, nothing that really makes a difference or that signals a change in direction. He doesn't want to get labeled the bad guy and seeks to label the Repub's as such. That is why he offers not so much and challenges the other side to put meat on the table to be offended by. Each is waiting on the other to start the dance and blame game. That is why we can't get anything done.
When Obama's solution was to tax the "wealthy" it helped him retain his voting base and fed into their "stick it to the other guy" mentality, but honestly the 42 Billion dollars gained does nothing pratical towards a 1 trillion dollar cliff. The interest on the debt is currently some 500 billion, so that doesn't even pay 10% of that.
If we don't get a better credit rating the interest will swallow us all. Some serious revenue enhancing from everyone must happen and cut back spending. No one wants to get the political heat from that, so here we are.
