Mexico City authorities say they have destroyed thousands of toy guns in an effort to fight real crimes committed with fake weapons.
Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera said Friday that officials believe that at least three of every 10 violent crimes in Mexico City is committed with a realistic toy gun.
The guns were confiscated from shops in Mexico City and the surrounding state of Mexico. Mexico bans virtually all civilian gun ownership and requires that toy weapons be made of transparent or brightly colored plastic. Sunday is Three Kings Day, when Mexican children receive the largest number of holiday gifts.
Official statistics show that there were 82,117 robberies and 1,349 homicides in Mexico City in the first 11 months of 2012.

Let's see...you get a orange color gun, you dip it in black exoxy paint, after it dries you spray on a shiny plastic coat.....or a dull one....whatever rocks your boat...and you got a 'gun'.......
wow......1349 murders....with guns that no one can legally own.....maybe they need to really go after the guns, and start actually executing the perps......rather than put them in prisons they escape from by the thousands each year?
Soon, goofy will be going after the toy guns.....here......already the libs suspend kids for even pointing a finger in class or drawing a cowboy with a gun.....or probably even a cop with a gun......after he watches 4 hours of shoot 'em up Hollywood movies each night with his parents...
