I will have a short sell fee labeled by my broker as Broker Interest Paid. Any idea how that would be handled by the current tax code? Is that interest paid similar to margin interest? Is it a fee that should be added to the basis of the short sale and only realized when the transaction is complete? I've been searching but alas have not spotted anything in pub 550 to definitively identify it.
