nterlibrary loan can be excellent in some situations, but take a look at Amazon and Half.com (part of ebay) before you decide.
Many popular books are printed by the millions. Older ones are often available used for less than $1, and shipping by media mail is often $4 or so.
Historical books are also often available as reprints. Some print on demand. Plus Google has more and more available electronically.
Sometimes you can own a book you want for less than the interlibrary loan fee.
