Most people seem to try to figure out how MUCH they can spend, and are frequently unhappy they can't spend more, or spend more even when they can't afford to do so.
Personally, I look for the minimum I need to spend to lead a good life. I yanked out cable and cable internet a couple of months ago, and so far find alternatives that are satisfactory.
If I decide I want such services back --- I can always do that.
But I prefer to experiment with doing with less and then seeing how that works.
Last summer I planted some leaf lettuce, which proved to be edible and entertaining.
I have some lettuce plants I've grown from the seed of those plants which I'll be growing this year, and I'm considering some corn and perhaps tomatoes as well.
Woo hoo! REALLY fresh corn on the cob? Sounds good!
It seems there is a HUGE difference between spending as much as you can and as little as you need to...
