Obama is not by any stretch of the most flexible imagination a 'conservative'.
Depends on your yardstick. And your definitions.
Is he as liberal as George McGovern was? Or FDR? Clearly not even close. Is he more liberal than Rick Perry or Santorum? Absolutely.
IMO, thirty years ago Obama would have been regarded as a moderate conservative. Maybe slightly left of center (moderate liberal). I think he's a lot closer to Eisenhower (Republican) than he is to McGovern or Dukakis.
Today I've heard people exclaim he's a flaming liberal, and I just shake my head as they clearly have no idea what a liberal really is.
