Yes [steelcut oats] take longer to cook but there is an overnight method that cuts the time down to five minutes in the mornings.
What's the overnight method, please?
Measure out your water and oats like normal. Bring water to boil, dump in oats, stir and cover, turn off heat, let sit overnight. In the morning just heat up and cook to desired texture.
I can't remember if I picked this up from Alton Brown or Cook's Mag.
