I don't know, I could make I good argument that they got it right (in fact they did).
The Mao idea of being satiable instead of insatiable is that you have learned enough. You are no longer curious. You know what you need to get by and get along. The world is flat. Those that are insatiable are the perpetually curious, always pushing the envelope, always starting the NEXT revolution. After you have won your revolution, you don't want to give power up to someone else.
Plus, in the Chinese culture, at least in Mao's time, no one was supposed to stand out or above the crowd.
