I didn't mean that I think the government manipulates the raw data.Though they might collect it in a flawed way. On purpose or by accident. But they manipulate how it's interpreted and adjusted. The incentive is not to produce accurate results, the incentive is to please their bosses who are in turn bossed by political appointees. Do you really think the politicos are primarily interested in making long term correct policy decisions, before all personal considerations? I think not, unless they are sure those decisions won't interfere with their own plans for fat salaries and job security.
