...not feeling like I have much of a brain left after getting off the phone with our insurance agent, telling me I MUST get our licensed son on our auto policy even though he is at college half a continent away and unable to drive the vehicles
I'll bite. Why? And, what's the uptick to your premium?

Apparently irrational PA law. Or an insurance agent that doesn't know what he is talking about. It is time to talk to an independent insurance agent. It's an extra $600/year to add Eldest on, (or maybe that's twice a year, since that is how we are billed,) no doubt more when we add a new car for DH, who was going to put his old one in service to Eldest this summer. Turns out we were supposed to get him on the insurance as soon as he got his license, which only happened the day before we left for college, so we didn't put him on as a driver, since, logically, he wasn't driving.

The only way it makes sense is if it was intentionally designed to extort more money out of parents, including those who refuse to let the kids drive their cars.

It's the nature of the mortgage industry and probably your real estate industry as well. You get the same question from the borrower / home buyer repeatedly.

Dealing with clients is not a problem for me. I am my only client.
