"We switched to a foam mattress and now everything is glorious, "
I presume you mean the so-called "memory foam". If so, beware of gradual
changes. We've had three sets now, and never tried to skimp on the
price. Yet after 3-4 years you start waking up with backaches that go
away by mid-morning, but get worse with time. The change in the mattress
is subtle, but eventually a dip develops where the greatest body mass
rests, and even if you change sleep position you wind up rolling into the
dip which is no longer a restful place. The longest one lasted was five
years, and that only because we waited till we moved before replacing it.
