For many people, going to work every day is so much of a life activity that total loss of job can be a big change of life. Its a social activity. Gets you to interact with people. Its a source of pride and sense of accomplishment. It gives you value to society and to your employer.

Stopping cold turkey can be very much like quitting smoking. Depression. A feeling of worthlessness. It can be a difficult time. Suicides even result sometimes.

Many approach this problem in stages. Working part time. Working as a temp. Volunteer work are common. They keep you busy, give you a chance to try some new activities and decide gradually what fits your style.

Good luck with the new position. It can be a great transition. But do spend some time thinking about what you want to do with your spare time.
