I'm always fearful of the eminent domain process, as like everyone, it's been used in cases that bring a tear to your eye. This particular case, I think the biggest question is compensation. They are rental units, leased through next year. That needs to be part of the compensation, as well as something to those that will have to relocate.

I believer per Michigan law they have to pay at least 125% of the fair market value of the properties. The U can easily afford that, the endowment for UofM is in the billions after all.

I'm not familiar with the figures, but it always has worried me. The income aspect is particularly troubling.
