I, too, have problems with the methods of comparison. A lot depends on what your major in and what the market needs are at the time you graduate and afterwards. And simply not getting a college degree hardly means education is over. There are any number of skilled technicians who gained their skills through technical training.

[There is nothing sadder than seeing a budding electrical engineer disassemble an oscilloscope in Physics Lab to "fix it", not being able to get it back together, and having a tech come up to repair it.]
