"Why should public employees have defined benefit pensions while [most] private employees only have defined contribution pensions?"
My wife was an IT consultant for a state agency who was enticed by the state to accept a full time job at a reduced salary in return for the healthcare benefits which they could negotiate at a much better rate, and the pension.
Police, firemen, soldiers and teachers accept modest salaries in return for the promise of health benefits and pensions.
Large corporations used to have pensions until they decided to cut costs and put their employees at the mercy of Wall Street by putting them into 401(K)s and IRAs instead.
Maybe we should go ahead and destroy public pensions and Social Security and put everybody under the thumb of Wall Street.
