Here's a chart that shows you how much you'd make or lose each year at various stock/bond asset allocations from 1970-2012.

The first 'fine-tuning" I'd do is to axe the financial adviser charging me the 1% annual fee assumed in the chart. That 1% fee will cost you 20% to 25% of your wealth over a 60 year saving/distribution timeframe.
