LadyIanna, many real estate agents and mortgage brokers have opt-in features on their websites. IOW, you can engage their services in a limited way just by providing your email address.
For example, say you want to buy a house in Dane County, Wisconsin. If you visit this site and put in your email address, you'll receive an automated reply. An actual person may contact you via email once or twice to ask if you want to narrow your parameters, etc. But they're not going to spend a lot of time on you until you reach out to them as a serious buyer. Still, sites like this offer a lot for the initially armchair shopper.
As for mortgage questions, you can steep yourself in this site and know more in a day than many people who have been through the process several times (and therefore think they know it all).
