If you're dealing with ETFs/Index funds, it would be easy to have all your portfolios exactly the same.
If you're dealing in individual stocks, you can tie yourself into a pretzel. Depending on your current tax bracket, one way may or may not be better than the other.
Tax laws will change, so today's plan will be out of date. More likely sooner than later.
