But I'm sure there are those who will be happy to spend $200K/yr to say they are part of that life style. Good for them...and I'm glad there're there and not here :-)
You can live in NY and not have much money - I did it as a student in grad school for 3 years. It was one of the best times of my life, and I found every cheap/free fun thing to do in the city - of which there are lots. It's a fabulous city - none better in the US, not even my current city of San Francisco. But if you want a conventional life, then yes, it can be very expensive.

It's nowhere near as congested as Calcutta or Tokyo, and not even as congested as Istanbul or London. It's congested compared to most US cities, but not compared to the world as a whole.
