Not the 60s but in the 70s, one brother was working in a steel mill earning $12/hr and another brother was working construction at $8/hr. Both earned enough in the summers to pay for college and graduate with a surplus in their bank accounts. Back then, good paying summer jobs for teenagers were more plentiful than today.

That's an understatement!
